Frequently Asked Questions
What type of resident is Abbeyfield Tamar House suited too?
Abbeyfield Tamar House is a care home providing personal care and accommodation for twenty eight older people over the age of 65 who may also have a physical disability. The home doesn't however provide intermediate care.
Will my room be decorated and furnished?
Your room will be furnished with curtains, bed and easy chair if you wish. All rooms have built-in wardrobe space and you are welcome to personalise your room with your own items of furniture and personal belongings.
Will I have to look after my own room?
Your room and all other areas of the home are kept clean by our team of housekeeping staff. However, should you wish to do some of your own cleaning, we will happily agree this with you.
Are meals included?
All meals and drinks are provided and we offer a varied, wholesome and appealing menu. Wherever possible we do our own home baking using fresh produce, and we will ask you what you like to ensure that the menus include your favourite foods.
Can I bring a pet?
If you have a pet that you would like to keep at the home you should speak to the care manager. We may be able to accommodate small pets but this would depend upon a number of things. We would need to consider the pet's basic needs, for example its cleaning, feeding, and veterinary care, and we would also need to consider the views of other residents.
Will I have a telephone and television?
All of our rooms have telephone and television points. You can bring your own TV and radio, and you may be eligible for a free TV license if you are aged over 75. There is also a TV in our communal lounge. You can pay to have a telephone line connected to your room should you wish. The home also has a telephone that you can use in private.
What happens if I become ill?
If you become ill we will give you all the care, support and advice we can. Either you or we can ask your doctor to come and visit you. Wherever possible any additional care you need will be given by the care staff in the home. If you ask us to, we will keep your relatives or friends informed as to how you are.
